Hand Turned Shou Sugi Bowls October 08 2014
These wood bowls have it all. Visual appeal, tactile pleasure, and functional versatility. Local wood turner, Landon Dix creates these alluring pieces of art by combining poplar wood with the traditional Japanese charring technique known as "Shou Sugi Ban", where the surface of the wood is burnt. This technique creates a stunning pattern, with colours moving from smokey quartz into soft ivory. The bowls are finished with a food safe polyurethane making them ideal for rice, nuts or other foods. They would also be devine used in a bedroom or living room to house treasures and everyday objects such as keys or jewelry. There is something nourishing about these entirely unique and perfectly curved pieces which will add warmth and sensuousness to any space.
